Who we are
A group of coaches, parents, administrators, and Oakland community members supporting all of the athletes and athletic programs at the OAL Middle Schools.
The OAL booster club has been formed to help support the different efforts of all OAL sports programming and building. A positive student-athlete experience.
Booster Clubs Supports Include:
- Volunteer time
- Raise funds to better enhance the team or organization’s performance.
- Print promotional items like team schedules, programs, and yearbooks (subject to approval by the head coach/athletic director).
- Support the program by providing additional funding for events, such as pre- or post-game dinners or social events during the season.
- Financially support the program by providing additional funding for coaches, staff, and event workers as approved by the head coach and athletic director.
- Listen and work closely with the athletic director.
When We Meet
Usually the 1st or 2nd Monday of each month at 6 pm in the OAL Office. Meeting announcements are posted on the OAL Middle Schools Newsletter and on the OAL Middle School websites.

The minimum cost to operate the OAL Middle School Athletic Program is $180,000. OUSD provides the minimal budget which covers Coaches Stipends, Facility Cost & Referees. OALB (Oakland Athletic League Boosters) is responsible for raising the other additional funds. Together, these funds pay for equipment, coaches’ stipends, tournament fees, officials, uniforms, transportation, Athletic Assistant & Athletic Trainer, – all to support all OAL student-athletes.
To meet this responsibility, each team is expected to raise a minimum of $120 per athlete (OAL MS), per season. This money goes through the OALB (Oakland Athletic League Boosters) account and is used to meet the basic needs of our Athletic teams. Anything raised “above and beyond” the $120 minimum is designated back to the team and is available for “extras” like warm-up suits, sweatshirts, etc.

The Oakland Unified School District is faced with a financial crisis, as are most school districts in California. Funding for Middle sports and the athletic department has been drastically reduced. In order to sustain the current athletic program, we must come up with $180,000, each school year.
We are asking each family of an athlete to fundraise $120 per athlete (OAL MS), per season. Oakland Athletic League Boosters is doing an aggressive fundraising effort, and individual sports will fundraise, as well. 100% of all money raised is used to cover the basic expenses including officials, transportation, equipment, uniforms, maintenance/upkeep of our facilities, and coaching stipends.
The Oakland Athletic League Booster Club is a sponsored project of the Oakland Public Education Fund, a nonprofit education organization. Contributions on behalf of Booster Club may be made payable to The Oakland Public Education Fund and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.”
